It’s that time of the day again when you get to leave your desk, take a break and clear your mind. Grab your lunch and explore areas near your office, but this time snap some pictures for your social media feeds. To help you along, here is a list of the Instagram-worthy spots around Taikoo Place you can get to during your lunch hour.
Montane Mansion
The hashtag #lookup has been trending on Instagram. Join the masses with your own upward-looking shots, starting with Montane Mansion. This public housing estate gets plenty of visitors trying to capture the symmetric apartment building by aiming their cameras to the sky from the central courtyard. It’s a visually striking housing complex of small units stacked in wide blocks. If you can’t get enough of this spot during lunch, try venturing here again past dusk; the windows from the apartments will light up beautifully against the dark sky.
Address: 1028 King's Road, Quarry Bay
Directions: It’s about a five-minute walk from Quarry Bay MTR Exit A or Tai Koo MTR Exit B.
Aldrich Bay Park
This fishing village-inspired park is a harbourside urban oasis. Here you’ll frequently encounter women fan dancing amid wooden awnings. Work with the shadows in your photo compositions. But by far the most Instagram-worthy element of the park is the decorative fishing junk floating in the park’s lake. Climb aboard and strike a pose, preferably on a sunny day.
Address: 10 Oi Tak Street, Sai Wan Ho
Directions: Walk from Sai Wan Ho MTR Exit A towards the harbour for two minutes.
Sunbeam Theatre
This heritage spot in the heart of North Point has been staging Cantonese opera since the 1970s. Check out the magnificent orb-like ceiling lights that glow in the lobby. Pose under them and have a buddy kneel down and take an upward shot for you.
Address: 413 - 423 King's Road, North Point
Directions: From Devon House of Taikoo Place, take the westbound tram for six stops, and you will see the theatre on your right or exit at B1 from North Point MTR.
Island Eastern Corridor Underpass
Take advantage of your proximity to the harbour and head over to the Island Eastern Corridor Underpass in North Point to see old men perched by the sea, fishing. It’s a surprisingly idyllic sight. The serene atmosphere will help you unwind while offering opportunities for a moody snap – with a thought-provoking caption, of course.
Address: Where Hoi Yu Street meets the Island Eastern Corridor Underpass
Directions: Walk north on Hoi Chak Street until you hit Hoi Yu Street and turn right.

It’s fortunate that one of the best panoramic views of the city is just a hop, skip and jump away for those of us working and living around Taikoo Place. Head to the 32/F of the lifestyle business hotel EAST, enjoy a drink, and get an expansive view of Victoria Harbour and the old Kai Tak Airport.
Address: 32/F EAST, 29 Taikoo Shing Road, Quarry Bay
Directions: From One Island East, head east and walk on Taikoo Shing Road for five minutes or exit D1 at Tai Koo MTR station.
