About Art Unchained
Sponsored by Swire Properties’ ArtisTree, Art Unchained, curated by art and tech specialists Lisa Botos, Jean-Luc Gustave, and Joanne Ooi, is a pop-up exhibition showcasing robotic artwork, Human Study #1, 5RNP by French artist Patrick Tresset, accompanied by a series of lunchtime talks about the impacts of new technologies on the art value chain.
Tresset's Human Study #1, 5RNP is an art installation where five robots simultaneously sketch a human sitter in different styles, in a twenty minute session, based on algorithms devised by Tresset. The sessions resemble live drawing classes, except that, in this case, the robots do the sketching. Just like human artists, each robot depicts the subject according to its own "subjective" interpretation.
Human Study #1, 5RNP premiered at the Merge Festival in association with the Tate Modern in London in 2012, and was subsequently exhibited at Ars Electronica in Austria (2014), the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seoul (2015), the Japan Media Arts Festival (2018), as well as the Mori Art Museum in Japan (2020).
