After hours fun: top post-work events in June

<
Hong Kong is a busy place, but while it’s easy to fall into a cycle of ‘all work and no play’, don’t forget to treat yourself to some R&R and fun every once in a while. From cultural pursuits to meditation sessions, we’ve put together a list of events this June that will help you unwind after a long day – or to extend it altogether.

Kick back

You deserve some me-time to destress after long hours in the office. One perfect way to wind down is through meditation – this mindfulness-based stress reduction programme not only helps you combat stress, but also enhances focus and inspires you to live life with appreciation. Enhale Meditation Studio, 14/F, The Plaza, 21 D'Aguilar St, Lan Kwai Fong, Central. Till 25 June, Tuesdays (7:30–10pm)
Just finished a challenging project? Reward yourself with bubbles and posh bites like Wagyu roast beef puffs and foie gras ice cream, all the while enjoying magical performances from French illusionist Stefan Leyshon at the very last session of Grand Hyatt’s “Champagne Secret”. Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, 1 Harbour Road, Wan Chai. 6 June (7pm)
Watching a film can be incredibly relaxing if you need an escape. Sit back and enjoy a whopping 55 films at the 13th Fresh Wave International Short Film Festival including those from the festival’s local competitions and international selections covering a wide array of topics to serve as food for thoughts. Broadway Cinematheque, MOViE MOViE Cityplaza and MY CINEMA YOHO MALL. 6-22 June

For those with kids, if you are looking to spend some quality time together but are too tired for anything active, the family-friendly theatre adaptation of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe – the much-loved fantasy story by author C.S. Lewis – promises an entertaining evening and an excellent bonding opportunity. Hong Kong Arts Centre, 2 Harbour Road, Wan Chai. 28 June (7:30pm) and 29 June (2:30pm and 7:30pm)

Play on

If you want to make the most of your day, why not pick up a new skill, work out, go socialise, or all of the above? One event that ticks all the boxes is Dance With Style’s free weekly classes for both beginners and experienced dancers – learn two iconic Latin dances, salsa and bachata, then party with more Latin music by Deejay Javed. Forbes 36 Sports Bar & Grill, 36 Forbes Street, Sai Wan. Tuesdays (8:30pm)
Another great event for music fanatics to mingle and discover new bands is the H2 Live Music Festival. Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the event, this year’s line-up will feature more than 80 local artists, underground bands and music that inspires, relaxes or energises you. The Wanch, 54 Jaffe Road, Wan Chai. 25 June–1 July (6pm onwards)
Prefer some quiet time instead? Pottery is your answer. Learn the ropes on manoeuvring a potter’s wheel – and making your own ceramic ware – at Two Parts Studio. You will get to make two pieces in a two-hour class: choose from cups, bowls or plates. Two Parts Studio, Unit 2, 3/F, Max Trade Centre, 23 Luk Hop Street, San Po Kong. Wednesdays to Fridays (7–9pm)
Finally, your style says a lot about you, so make sure you leave a good first impression whether it’s in the office or at a party. Get hairstyling and make-up tips from a professional stylist at Artisan Blossom’s Beautiology workshops, so you will look your best wherever you go. Artisan Blossoms, 2/F, 37 Staunton Street, Central. Tuesdays and Thursdays (7pm)
