Beyond 9-to-5 with Discover Taikoo Place

<
Life isn’t just about work. It’s about integrating both to strike a balance that, well, works for you.

This is what makes Taikoo Place so special; it’s not just a place where we show up at our desks. It’s a community that comes together – to support a good cause, to challenge one another during fitness programmes, and to revel in each other’s company at the end of a long day.

In May, Discover Taikoo Place showed over 7,500 participants what Taikoo Place is all about. The month-long campaign presented over 60 events highlighting four areas of focus, to help us with our journey to achieving our own versions of work/life balance.

Wellness

Staying active can seem a daunting task when deadlines are looming. But wellness isn’t just a buzzword around here! Whether it was aiming for more daily steps during The Bupa – WALK FOR MILES challenge, or pushing our personal limits at the H-Kore and Better You challenges, physical challenges presented by Joint Dynamics, Pure Fitness and Pure Yoga, during Discover Taikoo Place reminded us of the importance of incorporating self care into our everyday routines. And on one Friday, 16 relay teams took over the Lincoln House Linkbridge and pedalled away in the Corporate Wellness Challenge: 8-Hour Charity Spin. Not only did this occasion support Mind HK, but it also reminded us that, at work or in life, we can rely on each other in times of pressure – that indeed, teamwork does make the dream work.

Gourmet

Expanding our palates opens our minds to new ideas – and good company makes the experience all the more delicious. The usual hustle and bustle of Tong Chong Street was kicked up a notch during Discover Taikoo Place, when the area transformed into a world of creative gastronomy. Lines snaked at lunch hour when new Impossible Meat dishes were served at the pop-up truck run by Pici and Honbo. When the sun began to set, the Krug Pop-up Bar at One Taikoo Place became a happy hour hot spot with the sound of lively chatter and clinking Champagne glasses. Discover Taikoo Place was more than a new experience for revellers, though: Quarry Bay also saw its first-ever night market in the form of the Tong Chong Street Market Beer Festival. This time, the Lincoln House Linkbridge transformed into a giant screen for screenings of Frances Ha and the French Open 2019, watched by the buzzing crowds below enjoying pints of refreshing beer and food of every kind from popular vendors from around Hong Kong.

Culture

Arts and culture have the power to connect people, this we know, and it’s through entertainment that we find inspiration. Did you pop by ArtisTree for the chance to see how productions come together, during a backstage tour by Windmill Grass Theatre and an open rehearsal with the Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation? PROJECT AFTER 6 alumni also gave everyone a chance to take a quick “time out” with music performances at special lunchtime gigs. Keep your ears open: a new slew of talent is set to take Taikoo Place by storm with the new PROJECT AFTER 6: THE PITCH line-up, with performances starting from 4 Jul onwards!

Business

No matter which aspect of the business you’re involved in, workplace wellness is relevant to you. What makes for an ideal workplace? How does sustainability come into play? And what makes for positive employee engagement? Over 145 office professionals joined industry leaders at three Discover Taikoo Place panel discussion to share thoughts and ideas on how to improve common workplace concerns. Consider these aspects when you next challenge your own idea of work/life balance – what do you need to succeed?
