Major Annual Food Market Tong Chong Street Market Returns Themed “Explore New Levels of Taste” Running rom November to February

03 Nov 2018
Co-presented by Taikoo Place and social enterprise Honestly Green, Tong Chong Street Market features everything from fresh farmers’ produce to creative dishes, cooking tips, and the latest food and beverage trends. It is a platform that encourages dialogues for like-minded communities. It incorporates eco-living with food to promote healthy living and sustainability. This year, Tong Chong Street Market is getting bigger and better, and it welcomes 40 stalls helmed by the region’s culinary trailblazers.

Each Sunday from November to February, the market is home to homegrown food stalls, unconventional packaged food vendors and local farmers, offering a sumptuous and exciting selection of creative food, high-quality packaged, preserved and baked goods, as well as fresh seasonal organic fruits, vegetables and more. There are three dedicated themes in this season’s market, including ‘Coffee Festival’ in November, ‘Snowy Christmas’ in December and ‘Healthy Eating’ in January to February. Through a great variety of street food, games and performances, market goers could ‘Explore New Levels of Taste’.

Kicking off with November’s Coffee Festival, the festival will take market-goers on an aromatic tasting journey with twenty finest coffee vendors. Four coffee vendors from Taiwan made a special trip to Hong Kong to participate in this year’s Coffee Festival – All Day Roasting Coffee, hailed as one of the most instagrammable coffee shops in Taipei; COFFEE DPT located in Huashan 1914 Creative Park, Taipei; Paper Street Coffee located opposite to the Creative Park, and the talk-of-the-town Coffee Wake Up from Kaohsiung. Ralph’s Coffee, the brand’s Asian debut which has just opened in Hong Kong this February, offering the brand’s highlighted American roast and other deli snacks at a unique food stall with its signature green. Apart from coffee offering, other entertainments include giant games, classic arcade games and other music shows by PROJECT AFTER 6: Busking musicians.

The ones-to-watch this year include Elixir who will team up with Coffee Supreme and TEEMTONE to bring special coffee and treats to market-goers. Coffee Supreme is an Australian independent coffee roaster supplying cafes, homes and offices across New Zealand and Australia. Elixir will be offering hand drip Supreme Coffee and selling Coffee Supreme coffee beans. Each and every ice cream flavour by TEEMTONE are inspired by the "Pantone colour of the year”, and they will bring an array of purple coloured ice creams to the market. Together Elixir and TEEMTONE will be offering tantalizing sea salt caramel and honeycomb Affogato as their exclusive treats at the market. ACT focuses on high quality African Coffee and Tea with the aim to give back to women working in the production process, and for the market they have come up with a Tong Chong Street Market exclusive houseblend. It is Colombian brings you very rare and exclusive specialty coffees. Their hand-crafted coffee is grown, processed and roasted solely in Colombia, the largest producer of hand-picked arabica coffee beans in the world. The market is also offering a great variety of coffee-pairing gourmet food. Located in Tin Hau, Saigon Etoile is a Parisian Vietnamese Restaurant, they will be whipping up special Vietnamese street food in the market, such as the market-exclusive Winter Special Banh Mi Foie Gras. KONG by Bread and Beast will launch Mapo Cheung Fun exclusively for the market, crisped cheung fun with mapo tomato chilli sauce, a combination of two Cantonese dishes into one.

Collaborating again with local social enterprise Honestly Green, Tong Chong Street Market is committed to promoting sustainability in Hong Kong. This year a coffee cup rental scheme will be introduced to reduce the use of disposable coffee cups. Market-goers can enjoy different levels of discount upon bringing their eating utensils or cups for the food and beverage purchase in the market. Tong Chong Street Market also teams up with Eco-Greenergy to launch the “Coffee Ground Collection” Campaign, where all remaining coffee grounds from vendors will be collected and upcycled into coffee soaps.
