A show that bridges art, fashion and food for an immersive encounter with fashion photography
Presented by Swire Properties’ ArtisTree in partnership with the Foundation for the Exhibition of Photography (FEP), along with Vogue Hong Kong, Butler Luxury Caterer, and UK-based arts specialist MMBP,
Beyond Fashion will make its global debut in Hong Kong from 12 January to 24 February 2019.
Beyond Fashion brings over 100 fashion photographs and films by 48 celebrated photographers to ArtisTree such as Nick Knight, Peter Lindbergh, Miles Aldridge and Juergen Teller, as well as a new generation of talent, including Erik Madigan Heck. It is the first time in the world that this selection of work will be exhibited.
Having graced the pages of the world’s leading fashion publications, some of the works exhibited at
Beyond Fashion feature fashion elites Kate Moss and Victoria Beckham, and garments from renowned high-fashion houses such as Alexander McQueen, Comme des Garçons, Dior, Marc Jacobs and Celine.
Nathalie Herschdorfer, art historian and curator of
Beyond Fashion said, “Fashion photography is more than just a disposable picture on a printed page and goes beyond the initial intention of selling fashion and informing potential customers. It is a form of self-expression, evident now more so than ever with the explosion of street-style blogs and social media.”.
Babby Fung, Head of Office Marketing, Swire Properties said, “
Beyond Fashion is a throwback to our very first ArtisTree event more than a decade ago – a fashion exhibition, which put Swire Properties in the spotlight as a leading advocate of arts and culture. Our upcoming showcase offers a host of thought-provoking experiences, including exquisite dining sessions. Most importantly, this event continues our placemaking efforts, our work to make arts and culture a part of everyday life, and ultimately, our goal to create vibrant and sustainable communities.”
Special Appearance by Nick Knight and Collaboration with Vogue Hong Kong
The show will feature a special appearance by acclaimed photographer and founder of SHOWStudio -Nick Knight, who will participate in a lunchtime forum of Taikoo Place. Hosted byVogue Hong Kong, the forum will open Beyond Fashion on 11 January and will feature other guest speakers including the curator Nathalie Herschdorfer, and Fashion Director of Vogue Hong Kong Anya Ziourova. The topic of the lunchtime forum will be how fashion photography has become a new visual language and the impact digital media has had on the art form.
A designated section at the exhibition will showcase 30 films produced by SHOWstudio, which offers international audiences instant and full access to the previously closed world of high fashion.
Nick Knight has also been invited to participate in The Upper House’s signature event, Up Close, an inspirational talk series which plays host to some of the world’s most renowned names in art, design, fashion, luxury and more. Up Close with Nick Knight on 12 January will focus on his artistic views and inspirations.
The two forums will be moderated by Vogue Hong Kong Publisher Desiree Au.
Three Ways to Explore Beyond Fashion
In February, the exhibition will also be supplemented by
The Beyond Dinner – a series of immersive events that introduce a new way for audiences to explore fashion photography. Guests will enjoy a private tour led by the ambassadors of
Beyond Fashion before enjoying the full flavour of the exhibition in a dinner hosted by Mike Bagale, former Executive Chef of Chicago’s three-Michelin-starred restaurant Alinea.
Inspired by the works of the exhibition, Chef Bagale’s narrative menu will feature daring, experimental dishes with edible diamonds, an inflated balloon and more. All dishes are matched with natural wines from the world’s most sought-after artisan producers.
The
Open View and
Insider Tour passes will be available as part of the
Beyond Fashion programme. With the Open View pass, visitors can experience the exhibition with audio guides featuring commentaries by the curator, while the Insider Tour allows audiences to join guided tours designed by the exhibition curator.
