PROJECT AFTER 6: Busking is back with application open to all office professionals of Hong Kong for the first time, reminding them there is always life after work and to never give up on their passion in music. With close to 200 applications, the screening and two-day audition have ended with 40 busking groups selected by celebrity judges such as AGA, Phil Lam and Adrian Fu etc. The best of the best will perform at the lunchtime live gigs every Thursday in September and October. Together with a line-up of celebrity singers, lunch breaks in Taikoo Place will never be the same again with the stunning new soundtrack of PROJECT AFTER 6: Busking!
200 applications from across Hong Kong amazed celebrity judges with a kaleidoscope of musical talents
The audition call has attracted almost 200 talents from all walks of life including locals and expats from the Philippines, Britain, Sweden etc., encompassing different industries and professions, from firefighter, lawyer, flight attendant and freelance blue-collar to banker, engineer and clerk; there are millennials as well as dreamer-turned-fathers who pick up their passion again. At the audition, celebrity judges AGA, Phil Lam and Adrian Fu were all surprised by the buskers’ mesmorising acts, covering a number of original songs, solo accordion performance by an experienced busker, a refreshing erhu and double bass duo etc. It was a meaningful occasion where the judges shared valuable feedback with the buskers on their performance skills and style.
The shortlisted buskers will share the stage with celebrity singers in Taikoo Place’s lunchtime concerts every Thursday from September onwards
After the two-day intense auditions, 40 busking groups arose from almost 200 applications! The talented musicians mingled with one another at the Buskers Gathering & Workshop on 24 August, where they also had the chance to meet with celebrity guests AGA, Phil Lam, Robynn & Kendy, Mischa Ip and renowned music producer Edward Chan. Their fruitful exchanges on song writing, music production, busking and stage performance, igniting inspirations for their lunchtime live gigs on Thursdays throughout September and October in Taikoo Place. Lunch breaks become even something more to look forward to with the amazing art of live music, featuring special appearances from Gin Lee, Eman Lam, AGA, Phil Lam, Robynn & Kendy, Adrian Fu, Dusty Bottle, Lil’ Ashes, Cath Wong and Mischa Ip.
