30 Swire Properties’ Office Tenants will Perform in the Musical “Preview of Miss Rose”

13 Jun 2014
Award-winning Lyricist Chris Shum Wai-chung Joins the Creative Team

As part of Swire Properties' continuing tenant engagement programme, the new musical “Preview of Miss Rose” will debut at ArtisTree in TaiKoo Place from 25 - 27 July. After a lively round of auditions, 30 employees from TaiKoo Place and Cityplaza’s office tenants will take to the stage this summer. Coaching the cast in acting, dancing and singing since May are theatre professionals from Theatre Noir Foundation, the home-grown non-profit theatre company who is Swire Properties’ collaborative partner for this arts project.

“Preview of Miss Rose” is an original “Romantic Musical Behind a Desk” featuring six main characters. The story revolves around the kind-hearted and committed Miss Rose, who works at a dating and matchmaking agency. In spite of snide comments made by the snobbish Mr Park and gold-digging secretary Coco, Miss Rose never loses her passion for her work. When the agency teeters on the edge of bankruptcy, she stays strong to fight the battle with her boss, CK. Like a tiny screw in a big machine, Miss Rose is too small to be noticed, but too important to miss. Other characters in the musical include Mr Au-yeung, a sought-after wealthy gentleman who disguises himself as a customer visiting the agency and who later falls in love with Miss Rose; and the young and curious intern Laura, a spy sent by Mr Au-yeung to secretly collect information on the agency.

The musical features ten up-tempo and ballad pieces, the lyrics of which were written by award-winning lyricist Chris Shum Wai-chung, who won the Best Original Film Song in the 43rd Golden Horse Awards. Two main characters in the show will be played by four tenant cast members, including Ronald Chan (Vice President of Regional Compliance at Citi) and Wallace Tang, (Senior Software Engineer at Thomson Reuters), who will share the role of the boss CK, while Vivian So (Assistant Marketing Executive at HKT Limited), and Jenny Siu (Portfolio Officer at Swire Properties) will star as Laura. Swire Properties’ tenants will perform alongside a professional cast, including Angelika Wong as Miss Rose; Angus Chan, who won the “Best Actor Award” (Drama/Tragedy) at the 2007 Hong Kong Drama Awards, as Mr Au Yeung; Wong Ka Wai as Mr Pak; and Melodee Mak as Coco. Master classes will be hosted by 2008 Hong Kong Drama Awards Best Actress Kearen Pang, who will share her stage expertise and tips with all the cast members.

Talking about his upcoming role, our tenant cast member Mr Ronald Chan says, “Being selected as one of the lead roles in Miss Rose is truly exciting, and I appreciate all the creative effort that’s been put into this musical initiative.” As part of the chorus cast, Mr Stanley Lui, General Counsel of Nobel Biocare Asia comments, “This project allows my inner child to come out, and has strengthened my sense of being part of this passionate community.”

"Swire Properties has long been committed to supporting local arts initiatives through sponsorship and active participation, and continues to organise a range of engaging events to bring our office community together and spur their interest in arts.” said Mr Don Taylor, Office Portfolio Director of Swire Properties. “We seek to provide an attractive working environment, which we believe has a positive impact on employees’ productivity, contributing to a successful business. We’re very much looking forward to seeing our tenant cast members shine onstage in this musical.”

Miss Rose will be open to the public for free, with bilingual subtitles in Chinese and English. To benefit those in the community with different abilities, Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong will provide arts accessibility services, including audio description, accessible captions and theatrical interpretations for one of the performances.
