The Taikoo Place Community’s Secrets to Wellness

<
Everyone talks about wellness these days – but what does it actually mean to be well? And how should we go about fitting wellness into a busy schedule? We asked some of the fittest members of the Taikoo Place community for their tips.

Hilda (BNP Paribas, PCCW Tower)

“I started exercising regularly 10 years ago and have since explored a variety of workouts. I think the key is to find out what works for you, then remain consistent. For me, I like taking a high-intensity Lagree fitness class at lunch to break up my day. I often return to the office feeling energised.

Like everyone, I have both high and low energy days, but I tell myself that it’s ok to take a break from time to time. Remember, it’s the activities that you do throughout the day that set the framework for staying active. If I can’t make a gym class, I do something else to make up for it, such as taking a walk around the block or standing up from the desk more often. It sounds basic, but it does make a difference to your overall wellbeing. You don’t have to be a fitness fanatic to reap the benefits!”

My wellness secret:
H-Kore’s MegaKore classes. They are tough with the Megaformer machines that balance stability, resistance and control, but come with top results – your form, transitions and capabilities get better over time with practice.”

Andrew (FTI Consulting, Oxford House)

“My initial fitness goal was simple – to lose weight. Seven months into that journey, I’ve noticed how my energy levels have increased. This has led to a happier state of mind and I’m motivated to not return to bad habits.
There are two core elements to my wellness routine: diet and exercise. Eating only healthy food leads me to snack more, so instead, I find food that’s satisfying but not outrageously fattening. It’s easier to maintain a balanced diet when both my mind and stomach are happy. Exercise, on the other hand, was a little trickier. It’s challenging to not miss training sessions when you have hard deadlines. To stay motivated, I maintain a structured workout plan and, unless critical, I seldom deviate from this plan. It definitely helps that my gym, Joint Dynamics, is just five minutes from my office.”

My wellness secret: “Having a trainer who takes the time to talk about my goals, laugh with me and cheer me on. It’s a huge motivation when you feel supported on your journey.”

Amy (Cedar, Cambridge House)

“I have a pretty active lifestyle – I do fasted cardio three to four times a week and also train with a personal trainer – but I realised wellness isn’t just about exercise; rest is equally important. I used to work out every day, but after a while I just felt exhausted. So I tried adding a rest day to my weekly routine to let my muscles recover, and the results have been incredible. More isn’t always better when it comes to exercise.
For those looking to switch to a more active lifestyle, my advice would be to have realistic expectations. Any positive changes in life require consistency and self-discipline, and while it’s exciting to see results (whether it’s weight loss or a more toned body), they don’t come overnight. If you’re a beginner, start with something easy to keep yourself motivated. In time, you’ll naturally seek out more challenges as your body becomes stronger. Finally, don’t forget to include rest days!”
My wellness secret: “Weight lifting for maintaining muscles and decreasing risk of injury. Hire a personal trainer for better results – mine at Pure Fitness creates a programme for me based on my strengths and needs so I can maximise my workout.”
