Creating a New Food Scene – Taikoo Place’s Annual Tong Chong Street Market Returns

19 Oct 2017

Running from November to February, the popular "Sunday-Market-on-Wheels", features an innovative combination of sustainable and thematic gourmet delights

Taikoo Place's Tong Chong Street Market (TCSM) is making a grand return in November, hosting unique food adventures like no other. Teaming up once again with local social enterprise, Honestly Green, the market will incorporate eco-living with food to promote healthy living and sustainability in Hong Kong. Staying true to the central theme, "My Street Tastes Better than Yours", the market will feature scrumptious delights and local homegrown produce that are found exclusively at the market.

This year, Tong Chong Street Market is kicking off on 5 November with a series of monthly spotlight themes featuring over 40 innovative food experts, passionate food vendors and local farmers for a unique tasting experience each month.

Starting with the Coffee Festival in November, marketgoers can indulge in an aromatic tasting  journey with local and overseas coffee vendors, including an exclusive TCSM coffee blend, and take part in workshops for coffee appreciation and to upcycle coffee remains. Featuring cafés like premium boutique café Goodman Roaster from Taiwan, known for their signature hand-drip coffee and Guangzhou's must-try coffee shop, APF Café that offers coffee made from handpicked quality coffee beans and first-rate equipment. Not to mention we have lined up some local coffee vendors and cafes like Urban Coffee Roaster, Hazel & Hershey, Black Sugar Coffee and Roastery Lab by The Coffee Academics to work with Common Ground, the collaborative neighbourhood social hub, to explore different flavours and discover a new love for coffee roasts. With the arrival of December's cooler climate, we'll be bringing you hearty dishes with Pot Festival, followed by soups and other "Winter Warmers" in January and February to warm your soul during the chilly winter weather.

A treat for the taste buds and feast for the eyes, Tong Chong Street is revolutionizing to become a "Sunday-Market-on-Wheels," showcasing an array of gourmet delights in a multitude of eye-catching vehicles with original designs. Explore the colourful and photogenic market of food truck and movable food stalls, and enjoy a unique dining experience on an iconic double-decker bus.

"Our vision is to be the leading sustainable development performer in our industry globally by 2030. With this strategy in mind, we are seeking to create a vibrant community for people to connect and enjoy something we all love -- food!" said Babby Fung, Head of Office Marketing, Swire Properties. "This season, we're once again bringing together exceptional homegrown produce with various exciting specialties. Tong Chong Street Market, a melting pot of colour, creativity and community, is continuing to grow as a leading light for sustainable good food."

The market's Sustainability Corner will be offering exclusive tote bags, numerous eco-friendly utensils and products, including the popular reusable Grab'n'Go eco food wrap, Coffee NEXT's homemade soap as well as fertilizers made from coffee remains, to encourage the public to create less waste in their daily lives.

Every Sunday from 5 November 2017 to 11 February 2018*, market goers can also purchase fresh produce and by-products grown by certified local farmers, including pumpkins and tofu products, in collaboration with Jou Sun, the online farmers market delivery service, to support homegrown local produce. Making green-living easier, the public can now enjoy certified organic produce with friends and family by using the TCSM farmers' stall fresh produce office or home delivery service.
