TAIKOO PLACE PROJECT AFTER 6: Executive Chef

09 Dec 2015

Connects Tenant Employees with Like-minded Culinary Entrepreneurs
18 budding chefs showcase their culinary creativity at the “NOT ANY PLACE” corner of Tong Chong Street Market

Committed to the sustainable development of a work environment planned for the individuals who are engaged in it, Swire Properties’ Taikoo Place presents “Executive Chef” as a new initiative of its flagship tenant engagement programme PROJECT AFTER 6. Following a two-month culinary training, executives of office tenants are making their debut at Tong Chong Street to be continued on 13 December.

Representing a cross-section of companies in Taikoo Place, including J.P. Morgan, DBS, AXA, MetLife, Wyeth and more, the “Executive Chefs” host their stalls in the “NOT ANY PLACE” corner of the market, where they serve newly created signature dishes that focus on homemade ingredients and street food inspired creations. These were all developed during their training with mentor and star chef Christian Yang, and some of the Tong Chong Street Market restaurateurs such as Bread & Beast, Grassroots Pantry and TAP the Ale Project. The aspiring chefs were also invited to a jam-making workshop and were introduced to Food Angel, the food rescue and food assistance programme that promotes food cycle awareness.

Participant Cecilia Cheung from Gartner Hong Kong remarked, “Through our participation in PROJECT AFTER 6 and interactions with Food Angel, we have learned a great deal about the importance of cutting down on food wastage. Our team had become more thoughtful about how we used our ingredients, and managed to utilise a loaf of bread in its entirety across two different dishes to avoid any food wastage.”

By making a donation, market goers will be able to get dishes prepared by the “Executive Chefs”, and encouraged to vote for their favourites. All proceeds from the “NOT ANY PLACE” corner will contribute to fundraising for Food Angel.
My Favourite Dish Award will go to the team that receives the most likes at the market, and the Fundraising Award will go to the team that raises the most money through donations. To win the Executive Chef Award, the team must earn the support of the eight guest judges including: General Manager, Swire Properties’ Taikoo Place, Aileen Chan; foodie and singer Kandy Tong, known by her stage name "Tong Mui"; star chef Christian Yang; founder of Honestly Green, Janice Leung Hayes and four representatives from the media. All PROJECT AFTER 6 participants have already presented their signature dishes to the judges, and the results for all three awards will be announced by the end of December.

In September, 60 participants, who work in Taikoo Place, joined a qualifying round to enter the “Executive Chef” programme. Eighteen finalists were selected to go through an intensive culinary training course that involved learning a wide range of skills including cocktail mixology, brewing beer, preparing steak, as well as restaurant business and operations.

The “NOT ANY PLACE” corner at Tong Chong Street Market will continue on Sunday, 13 December, from 11am to 5pm. The last market of this season will take place on 27 December, and the next season will return in Spring 2016. For more information including a vendor list of stalls at the market, please visit:
