Thursday‧Live Lunchtime Concerts at Taikoo Park

Taikoo Park (Landscaped garden outside One Island East)
Free public access

Presented by Swire Properties’ Taikoo Place, the yearly lunchtime concert series is back. Every Thursday from 13 October to 24 November, the concerts continue to introduce up-and-coming local and foreign musicians, offering diverse music experience to the community. This year, seven groups of musicians will take audience through time and space for a kaleidoscopic music journey as they spend a relaxing mid-day break at Taikoo Park.

Programme schedule*:

Music curated by Bitetone

13 Oct : Rubberband (Canto-rock)
Local Canto-rock band Rubberband has been rocking their way through the Hong Kong music scene ever since their inception in 2004. Known for their socially aware lyrics and varied pop rock sound, the band is a force to be reckoned with in the local band scene.

20 Oct : SENZA A Cappella (A Cappella)
SENZA A Cappella is an a cappella group first established from Hong Kong Baptist University in 2009. The group’s name ‘Senza’ means ‘without’ in Italian, which coincides with the non instrumentation style of a cappella singing.

27 Oct : The Gramophonic Vogue (Jazz and Cabaret)
As hinted by their name, The Gramophonic Vogue harkens to a simpler time when the gramophone was king. By putting a spin on modern hit songs done in a 20s jazz and cabaret style, this six-person mega group is a blend of nostalgia and modern tongue-in-cheek-wit.

3 Nov : Yeung Chi-yuen (Pop)
Singer-songwriter Siu Yuen may be one of the most hardworking singer songwriters in Hong Kong, having given over 500 performances in the last few years. His debut album To Myself was released earlier this year. He is also a member of JL Music; a local music collective formed in 2012, made up of singers and musicians from a diverse range of backgrounds.

10 Nov : SIU 2 (Eastern and Western Fusion)
SIU2 is a renowned fusion band that juxtaposes both Eastern and Western sounds into a distinct music style that accurately portrays the disparate culture of Hong Kong. The band is no strangers to performing overseas, having graced stages from Paris to Malaysia. So far, the band has released three albums in total: Sonic Traveler (2013), KonFusion (2010) and Open Door (2008).

17 Nov : 9 Maps (Indie Folk Rock)
9 Maps is an award winning four-piece indie folk rock band from Hong Kong. Having been named local band to watch in 2011 by Time Out magazine, and by CNNgo as one of the 'Best Hong Kong bands to rock out with'. Their debut album High Incline was released in 2012 under Untitled Records, and their next album is in the works for a 2016 release.

24 Nov : Light Engine (Taiwan) (Jazzy brit-rock)
Light Engine is a jazzy brit-rock band from Taiwan comprised of vocalist Engine and guitarist Ken. The band has released an EP My Journey in 2012, a full album Scenes along the way in 2013, and most recently an EP titled Chocolate Brownie. With traveling being a central theme in their music, it will surely be a treat for Hong Kong audiences to hear the stories behind their music.
