Shamian Island

G/F Lincoln House
Matthew Simmonds
Meticulously carved from a single block of marble originating from Carrara, Italy, this stone bench takes inspiration from the colonial architecture on Shamian Island, Guangzhou, where Butterfield and Swire set up its office in the 19th century. The opening up of the solid stone reveals intricate worlds in which the changing viewpoint and light define the sculptures.
